Ohio child ‘smiling again’ after chiropractic adjustments, parents say – but is it safe?
A newborn in Columbus, Ohio, has a new look after being treated by a chiropractor, his parents say.
Lily Freeman, just 2 months old, was not a happy baby, her father, Joseph Freeman, told Fox News Digital.
When her daughter was born, her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck twice.

About a week after he was born, Freeman and his wife, Stephanie Murdock, noticed that the baby was exhibiting extreme agitation, clenching fists, stiff arms and legs.
Murdock, who was breastfeeding, went on a strict diet, cutting out all dairy and eggs, hoping to produce some change.

Freeman said: “When he was placed on his back, he was crying so hard. “The only thing that worked was to treat him well. We knew something was wrong.”
The couple took their baby to four different doctors, who decided that because he was gaining weight and healthy, he probably had colic—which was it will improve in three to four months.
“As his parents, we couldn’t sit back and wait,” Freeman said. “We knew he had an invisible pain.”

The couple posted on social media, seeking answers from their parents. Many recommended that they see a chiropractor.
“We had no prior knowledge that chiropractors were treating children,” Freeman said. “We were very suspicious because Lily was only 2 weeks old.”
Freeman and Murdock took their baby to see Dr. Josh Russell at Ability Chiropractic in Hillard, Ohio. The doctor explained to them that the delivery process can be “tragedy” for both mother and child.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Russell said that he and his colleague, Dr. Tyler Morman, they often treat babies with promiscuous behavior.
They typically do a “thorough exam” and investigate the child’s history, including details of the pregnancy, labor and delivery.

“The whole purpose of chiropractic is to help the nervous system work the way it should,” he said.
“When you have a lack of movement in the spine and muscle stiffness … that disrupts the communication of the nervous system to send signals to the rest of the body.”
When examining a baby, the movement of the spinal joints will help determine where adjustments are needed, Russell said.
When preparing, the doctor said that the appropriate pressure is the one that can be used to check “a peach or a tomato for ripeness.”

“It’s a steady pressure, holding a certain area that needs to move properly,” he said. “Once that disruption of the nervous system is gone, we see big changes.”
Freeman, the child’s mother, told Fox News Digital after the second chiropractic visit, she and Murdock noticed a “huge change” in their gait and behavior.
He said: “He started to smile for the first time since he was born. We could put him on his back without crying uncontrollably.
He added, “She was able to sleep without waking up every 20 minutes in pain. It was great to see Lily become a completely different baby.”
Russell said he sees family members from one day old to 99 years old.
Babies, toddlers and children who have trouble eating, sleeping or having bowel movements can benefit greatly from adjustments, according to a chiropractor.

For young children, Russell says chiropractic care can also help with overuse.
Regarding parents’ concerns that the change might harm their baby, he said the practice is “the safest.”
“I’ve never had a bad feeling about chiropractic care,” he said.
“Our protocol … is a thorough, very light test. It’s nothing crazy.”

Freeman encouraged other parents to “do their research” and consult a chiropractor before seeking treatment.
“Knowledge is power, and we had to advocate for Lily,” he said. “You must be a voice for the voiceless.”
Dr. Lora Tanis, a chiropractor in New Jersey who is also president of the Council of Chiropractic Pediatrics, weighed in, telling Fox News Digital that she “definitely advocates” chiropractic care for babies.
“There are often mechanical forces or conditions that can cause a baby to be screened, so having a baby screened early can avoid future problems,” she said in an email.

Chiropractors are trained to make “age-appropriate assessments before determining whether a child is a candidate for chiropractic care,” Tanis, a board member of the Foundation for the Advancement of Chiropractic, added.
Children with neuromusculoskeletal disorders will show signs of “great relief” after visiting a chiropractor, he said.
“Many parents report that their baby cries less and sleeps better after chiropractic care.”
“The changes that are made to children are very simple, accurate and appropriate for their age,” said Tanis.

He encouraged parents to seek chiropractic help for children if they notice an unusual position or position of the head, reduced limbs, irritation with movement or injury.
Not all experts agree that chiropractic adjustments are safe for newborns.
A careful study published in Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), concluded that “serious adverse events may be associated with spinal manipulation in children.”
JD VANCE PUBLISHES THE AMERICAN FAMILY AMIDST THE FOUNDATION OF THE FAILURE TO GET OUT, SEVERAL FACTS WILL COME OUT.
Beth C. Natt, MD, director of pediatrics at Atlantic Health System in New Jersey, echoed those concerns.
“I don’t recommend chiropractic care for babies,” he told Fox News Digital.
“While watching a newborn baby ‘transform’ may be a popular video clip on TikTok, the truth is that the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and other recognized medical organizations do not recommend chiropractic care for infants because of its safety and efficacy.”
Claims that chiropractic care can treat conditions such as colic, reflux and sleep disturbances “are not supported by strong scientific studies,” according to Natt.
While some believe that babies should be “normalized” after birth, Natt disagreed.
“A baby’s body goes through these natural changes and developments after birth, and babies are wired to adapt to their environment without external intervention like chiropractic care,” he said. he said.
The doctor noted that babies have “fragile and developing bones and joints,” which makes them “more susceptible to injury from manipulation of the spine.”

“There have been reported cases of serious injuries, including fractures and spinal injuries, following chiropractic care in infants,” Natt warned.
The doctor encouraged parents to talk to their pediatrician about their concerns before seeing a pediatrician.
A pediatrician can evaluate the baby and determine whether other, less dangerous treatments are better for the baby, she said.
Natt added: “At the end of the day, we all agree – we want to make sure we look after the health, safety and well-being of our patients.”
